《21》Hakata Dolls (Part 2)...The Origin of Hakata Dolls
- The origin of Hakata dolls dates back to 1600, over 400 years ago, when Nagamasa Kuroda entered Chikuzen. When Nagamasa gathered many craftsmen from Banshu, Nakatsu, Najima and other areas to build Fukuoka Castle, one of the roots is said to be that the tile makers made unglazed dolls out of clay.
- In the latter half of the Edo period (1603-1868), master craftsmen such as Soshichi Masaki and Kichibe Nakanoko flourished, and the Hakata doll making industry boomed and became known throughout Japan.
- In 1900 during the Meiji era (1868-1912), Hakata dolls made by master craftsman Yoichi Kojima were exhibited at the World Exposition in Paris and received high praise from all over the world, spreading the fame of Hakata dolls internationally. /
博多人形（その２）…博多人形の起源
- 博多人形の起こりは今から４００年以上前の1600年、黒田長政の筑前入国にまでさかのぼります。長政が福岡城を築城するために、播州•中津•名島などから多くの職人が集められた際、瓦職人が土で素焼き人形を作ったことがルーツのひとつとされています。
- 江戸時代の後半に正木宗七や、中ノ子吉兵衛などの名工たちが活躍して、博多人形づくりは活況を呈し、全国に知られるようになりました。
- 明治時代の1900年には、パリ万国博覧会に名匠、小島与一の博多人形が出品され、 世界各国より高い評価を受けて、博多人形の名声を国際的に広めることとなりました。
