《2》Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine (Part 2)...This shrine is the tomb of Sugawara no Michizane

-When he was transferred from the capital to Dazaifu, Sugawara no Michizane, a great lover of poetry and flowers, wrote the following poem about the plum blossoms in his garden.

"When the east wind blows let it send your fragrance, oh plum blossoms; although your master is gone, do not forget the spring"

-The plum trees, which are said to have flown to Dazaifu overnight in admiration of Sugawara no Michizane, bloom with fragrant flowers every year at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

-The biggest difference between Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, famous for the legend of the flying plum tree, and other Shinto shrines is that it is not a place to worship Amaterasu or other Shinto deities, but a mausoleum, or tomb, of Sugawara no Michizane. /
