《18》Hakozaki Shrine's Hojoe (Part 4)...The famous Chanpon, the popular Ohajiki, etc.
- The three most famous specialities of Hakozaki Shrine's Hojoe are "Chanpon", "Ohajiki", and " New Ginger".
- First of all, "Chanpon" is the most famous of the Hojoe specialties. When the glass tube is blown, the bottom part of the tube makes a popping sound. This glasswork has been sold at the Hojoe since the late Edo period.
- Along with Chanpon, one of the most popular items is the Hojoe Ohajiki, made by Hakata doll craftsmen. Some enthusiasts have purchased these glass ball playthings every year. The Chanpon and Ohajiki are sold at the ticket office from 8:00 a.m. on the 12th, but they sell out in no time.
- Finally, one of the specialties unique to this festival is the "New Ginger" with its leaves and stems still attached. This is a remnant of the fact that the area around the festival site used to be a ginger production area, and the New Ginger harvested at this time of the year has become available for sale. The nourishing New Ginger is also associated with prayers for good health. /
筥崎宮放生会（その４）…名物のチャンポン、人気のおはじきなど
- 筥崎宮の放生会の三大名物と言われているものが「チャンポン」と「おはじき」と「新生姜」です。
- まず放生会名物の代表格といえばやはり「チャンポン」です。ガラスの管を吹くと、底の部分がぺコン、ポコンと音が鳴ります。江戸末期から放生会で売り出されるようになったガラス細工です。
- チャンポンとともに人気のあるものが、博多人形師の職人の手による「放生会おはじき」です。ガラス玉の遊び道具で毎年買いそろえているマニアの方もいるようです。チャンポンとおはじきは12日の朝8時から札所で販売しますが、あっという間に売り切れてしまいます。
- 最後にこのお祭りならではの名物として、葉茎がついたままの「新しょうが」があります。これは、もともと地元の周辺がしょうがの産地であったことの名残から、この時期に採れる新しょうがを販売するようになったようです。滋養豊かな新生姜は無病息災の祈りにも通じます。
