- In several articles so far, we have introduced the city and people of medieval Hakata. Our historical walk in medieval Hakata is about to come to an end with this article series.
- In the previous article, "Medieval Hakata- Renga poet Sogi (Part 2)," it was mentioned that Hakata was the largest international trading city in Japan at that time. What was the reason for Hakata's development as a city? Let's think about it again.
-The main reason was location of geographical fortune. It was at the crossroads of the vertical trade line connecting Korea - Tsushima - Hakata - Satsuma - Ryukyu, and the horizontal trade line connecting China - Goto - Hakata - Akamaseki - the Kinai region, the largest consumer market in Japan.

中世博多-勘合貿易（その１）…中世博多の発展条件
- これまで幾つかの記事で、中世博多の街や人々の姿を紹介してまいりました。中世博多の歴史散歩もそろそろこの記事の連載で終わりに差し掛かります。
- 前回ご紹介しました「中世博多-連歌師宗祇（その２）」で、「博多は当時日本最大の国際貿易都市であった。」と述べました。博多が都市として発展したわけは何だったのでしょうか。改めて考えてみましょう。
- 最大の理由はその地理的条件にありました。博多の位置は、朝鮮―対馬―博多―薩摩―琉球を結ぶ縦の貿易ライン、また中国―五島―博多―赤間関―そして国内最大の消費市場である畿内を結ぶ横の貿易ラインの、ちょうど交叉点に位置するという地理的幸運（地理的条件）があったためです。
