《42》Medieval Hakata - Japan-Ming trade (the tally trade) (Part 3)...Kamiya Jutei and Iwami Ginzan

- The Ouchi clan's rule over Hakata brought a certain stability to the city in the Middle Ages. Another important factor for the development of medieval Hakata as a city was the stability (war-free Hakata) and tolerance (interference-free Hakata) of the Ouchi clan's rule.

- It was during this period that Kamiya Jutei (grandfather of Kamiya Sotan, one of the three great merchants of Hakata) of the Kamiya family, known as the wealthy merchants of Hakata, was flourishing. Jutei is known as the person who discovered the Iwami silver mine in Izumo.

- In 1526, while sailing off the coast of Iwami on his way to Izumo, Jutei happened to see a shining mountain to the south. When Jutei heard from the locals that it was a silver mine, he immediately developed a mine and transported a large amount of silver to Hakata, earning a large profit. /
