《38》Medieval Hakata - Renga poet Sogi (Part 2)...Medieval Hakata in the Muromachi period was Japan's largest international trade city

 - We have often mentioned that Hakata, facing the Genkai Sea, has been Japan's representative gateway to the East Asian continent since ancient times.

 - However, among the long history of Hakata, the late medieval period (Muromachi period), when ships from the Tang Dynasty (China), Goryeo (Korea), and Nanban (southern countries) converged in Hakata, can be said to have been the largest international trading city in Japan, literally, with very brilliant and gorgeous activities.

 - One of the reasons for this can be inferred from the amount of trade ceramics excavated. The amount of trade ceramics excavated in Hakata during this period is much higher than in other port cities, and the variety of excavated items is also diverse. From this point of view, we can see that Hakata had a much deeper relationship with Asia than other port towns in Japan, and that it was indeed a suitable environment for Japan's largest international trading port. /
