《58》Saga Journey - Hagakure (Part 3)...The Four Vows of Hagakure
- The fundamental spirit of Hagakure's writings is revealed in the four vows listed in the preface, "Quiet Talk in the Shadows of Night". One of them is the vow, "In the way of the Bushido, do not delay". The first of these is the vow, "In the way of the Bushido, never fall behind," which means that a samurai must never fall behind at any time, and this is called the "Ever-present Battlefield".
- The second vow says, "You should stand at the service of your lord". Yamamoto Tsunetomo insists on the importance of loyalty and devotion to one's lord, especially in the shadows.
- Thirdly, vow says ,"one should be filial to one's parents". This section teaches that we should not neglect filial piety as a human path.
- Lastly, vow says, "We should create great compassion and be of service to others". This section teaches that we should have the same kindness and compassion as the Buddha who has compassion is vast and boundless.
This is what the spirit of Hagakure was all about. What do you think about this? /
佐賀の旅-葉隠（その３）…葉隠四誓願について
- 葉隠の根本精神は、序文「夜陰の閑談」に挙げられる四誓願（4つの誓い）に明らかにされています。そのひとつは「武士道においておくれとり申すまじき事」という誓いです。武士はいついかなる時も決して遅れをとってはならない、これを常在戦場ともいいます。
- 第2に「主君の御用に立つべき事」とあります。山本常朝は、とりわけ人目に立たぬ忠義や陰の奉公というものが大事だと主張しています。
- 第3に「親に孝行仕るべき事」を掲げています。ここでは、人の道としての親孝行をおろそかにしてはならないと説いているのです。
- 最後に「大慈悲を起こし人の為になるべき事」と述べています。広大無辺な仏の慈悲と同じ優しさをもって人に尽くすべきだと説いたのです。葉隠の精神とはこのようなものであったのです。皆さんはどう思いますか。
