Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a historic festival in Kyushu, is now being held

Hakata Gion Yamakasa, the historic festival previously introduced in this blog, is being held in Fukuoka from July 1 to 15.

Here is a photo of the "Amaterasu" carrying yamakasa, crafted by the renowned Hakata doll artist, Ms. Sachiko Kawasaki. Amaterasu represents the sun goddess from Japanese mythology. In 2023, Ms. Kawasaki, as a female doll artist, created the "front-facing doll" for the 6th yamakasa in the Chiyo Nagare. This carrying yamakasa will dash through the streets of Hakata starting from the "Nagareyama" on the 10th, leading up to the grand finale on the 15th, known as the "Oi-yamakasa".

Please note that we also carry Yamakasa Hakata dolls in our store. Consider this opportunity for your collection or as a unique gift for someone special.
