《57》Saga Journey - Hagakure (Part 2)...Bushido is to be found in the way of dying
- In the first part of Hagakure, there is a so widely known quote, "Bushido is to be found in the way of dying".
- It is generally believed that this "dying" refers to the spirit of "selfless devotion" that runs through the foundation of Hagakure, and the "reduction of self-interest".
- On the other hand, there is another view that it means "how to die with determination" , which is the ultimate way to be a samurai, inherited from the tradition of the Sengoku period. /
佐賀の旅-葉隠（その２）…武士道は死ぬことと見つけたり
- 葉隠の冒頭部には、「武士道といふは、死ぬことと見付けたり」という、あまりにも広く知れ渡った名文言があります。
- この「死ぬこと」とは、葉隠の根本に流れる「陰の奉公」の精神、「私利私欲の減却」を意味するとの見解が一般的です。
- しかし一方では、戦国時代の遺風を受け継いだ「覚悟ある死に方」、すなわち究極の武士としての心得を説くとする見方もあります。
